The main factors causing material aging are sunlight and humidity. The xenon lamp climate test chamber can simulate the hazards caused by sunlight, rain, and dew. The xenon lamp simulates the effect of sunlight exposure, and the condensed moisture simulates rain and dew. The tested material is placed in a cyclic program of alternating light and moisture at a certain temperature for testing. It takes several days or weeks to reproduce the hazards that occur outdoors for months or even years. Artificial accelerated aging test data can help select new materials, modify existing materials, and evaluate how changes in formulation affect product durability.
Due to long-term exposure to fluorescent lamps, halogen lamps, or other luminescent lamps, products placed in retail outlets, warehouses, or other environments will also undergo significant photodegradation.
The xenon lamp weathering test can simulate and reproduce the destructive light generated in such commercial lighting environments, and can accelerate the test process with higher intensity. Light resistance refers to color stability or the ability of the material to resist exposure to sunlight, without fading or changing color. True light resistant paintings usually do not expose themselves to outdoor sunlight, and are placed indoors without direct sunlight exposure
